Boat Overturns in Southwestern China Leaving 10 Dead, 8 Missing - Reports

BEIJING (Sputnik) - Ten people have died and eight others are believed to be missing after a vessel capsized in the southwestern Chinese province of Guizhou, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Friday.

The CCTV broadcaster reported that a boat carrying 29 passengers overturned on the Beipan River late on Thursday. The reports added that 11 people had been rescued, while 8 remain missing.

The police have reportedly detained the boat's owner since the accident. A search and rescue operation is currently underway.
