Heavy gunfire has been reported by the media outlet Republic along the Line of Control in the Nowshera and Poonch sectors on the de facto border between Pakistan and India. According to the outlet, the Indian Army's 44RR (Rashtriya Rifles) camp is the target of the terror attack. An unconfirmed report says that an Indian Army ammo depot has been shelled from the Pakistani side of the Line of Control.
Reports suggest that two Pakistani and three Indian civilians were killed during the night after being caught in crossfire along the border in the Poonch sector.
The Indian chief of army staff, General Bipin Rawat, visited the Indian Army's White Knight Corps, which is stationed in Jammu and Kashmir, to review its level of readiness in light of the recent attacks along the Line of Control.
Relations between Pakistan and India have been strained following a recent terror attack against an Indian security convoy that claimed the lives of 40 paramilitary personnel on 14 February. New Delhi suspects that Islamabad is harbouring and supporting the group Jaish-e-Mohammed, which organised the attack.

Bilateral ties further worsened after Pakistan downed two Indian jets, which were conducting air strikes against Jaish-e-Mohammed on Pakistani territory. New Delhi has said that its air force also downed a PAF F-16. Pakistan denies having used an F-16 or losing a plane in a dogfight.
