Prior to her call for new Democratic candidates for the upcoming elections in the state of Virginia to stand forward, Hillary Clinton also urged state Governor Ralph Northam to resign over his racist yearbook photo controversy – a move which led some to brand the former first lady a hypocrite.

Despite this year’s elections in Virginia being scheduled to take place only in November, former Democratic presidential hopeful and ex-first lady of the United States Hillary Clinton urged her supporters to prepare for the electoral process.

“There are 1,600 offices on the ballot in Virginia's state elections this fall”, Hillary tweeted, asking people to help “recruit great Democratic candidates” via Run for Something, a US political organisation dedicated to recruiting and supporting young candidates running for down-ballot office.

Her call, however, quickly evoked a barrage of negative responses online, with people criticising both her and the Democratic Party in general.

Some were also quick to remind her about the recent scandal involving current Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and a racist photo from his medical yearbook.

Earlier, Hillary was also branded a hypocrite on social media after she urged Northam to resign, with people recalling her support of Northam’s election campaign and her relationship with Robert Byrd, a former high-ranking member of the Klan.
