The Senate Judiciary Committee has announced the results of the vote on Brett Kavanaugh's candidacy as a member of the US Supreme Court.

The US Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday voted in favor of the confirmation of US President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The final vote was 11 to 10 along party lines.

However, Republican Senator Jeff Flake said he would only vote in favor of Kavanaugh if the vote in the full US Senate were delayed by a week in order to have a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) probe into allegations against the nominee.

Several Democrats have walked out of the hearing on Brett Kavanaugh's nomination.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump called the Supreme Court nominee's testimony regarding allegations of sexual assault "powerful, honest and riveting."

The vote comes around 24 hours after Christine Blasey Ford presented her testimony to a panel about her accusation against Kavanaugh. Brett Kavanaugh appeared before the panel and forcefully denied all allegations.

Senator Lindsey Graham got emotional during the hearing yesterday, accusing Democrats of making this a purely political issue.
