The LGM-30G Minuteman III is the only US land-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and was put into service almost 50 years ago as a deterrence measure against the Soviet Union.

The US Air Force has successfully conducted an operational test launch of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the press service of the Air Force Global Strike Command said.

This is the first such test launch this year, with the last one being conducted in August 2017; initially, the launch was scheduled for February but was postponed.

The launch of the missile without a warhead was conducted at the Vandenberg Air Force base in California and was called successful as it managed to hit its designated target.
