Sputnik presents the candidates of the 2018 Russian Presidential Elections, their bios and positions on domestic and foreign policy. Meet Vladimir Zhirinovsky, candidate for the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia.

Biography: Vladimir Zhirinovsky has come a long way as a politician. His political career dates back to the early 1990s, which were a turning point in Russian history. As the leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) for almost a quarter century, Zhirinovsky has run for the presidency five times.

Domestic program: Vladimir Zhirinovsky plans to give Russians the status of state-forming people, actively promote the Russian language and fight against the "domination of migrants."

In the economic field, he intends to carry out large-scale industrialization, restoring the industry destroyed in the 1990s. He promises to write off poor people's utility debts, "clamp down on corruption," support small businesses, guarantee tax-exemption for production enterprises and scientific institutions, keep prices in check, develop Siberia and the Far East.

Foreign policy: The LDPR leader believes that since the collapse of the Russian Empire in 1917, Russian diplomacy has made many mistakes. It is now time to focus all foreign policy efforts on safeguarding the interests of Russia and Russians. Vladimir Zhirinovsky has also proposed the creation of a new USSR that would include Iran and Turkey.
