MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Over 80 percent of Russians are expected to go to the polls next month to elect the country’s next president, an opinion poll has found.

A survey conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) last week discovered that 81.1 percent of those sampled would "certainly" or "probably" cast ballot in the March 18 election.

This is almost 2 percentage points higher than the pollster’s earlier estimates for the end of January.

Only 7.3 percent said they would probably or definitely stay at home, while 10.6 percent said they had not undecided yet.

The survey was conducted by phone among 7,000 adults in Russia. The previous presidential election in 2012 saw a turnout of roughly 65 percent.
