WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US State Department's condemnation of Russian foreign agent media law is yet another demonstration of the policy of double standards, the Russian Embassy in the United States said in a statement.
"The US State Department's statement is another example of double standards and an attempt to turn everything 'upside down' regarding the subject of foreign agents," the statement, published on the Russian Embassy's Facebook page, read.
Earlier, President Vladimir Putin signed amendments to a bill allowing the listing oft some foreign media outlets operating in the country as Foreign Agents. The measure comes as a mirror response to to the forced registration of RT America under FARA at the behest of the the US Justice Department's demand.
The text of the new Russian law reads that media that receive financial assistance from foreign states or organizations can be recognized as foreign agents, while the decision on which outlets will be classified as "foreign agents" will be made by the Ministry of Justice.
