Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week that the military actions to eliminate terrorists in Syria are coming to an end. However, the Syrian Army supported by a Russian Aerospace Forces group continues to destroy final pockets of terrorist resistance.

A video obtained by Sputnik shows Syrian long-range artillery and multiple launch rocket systems shelling terrorist positions in the outskirts of the town of Abu Kamal, the last Daesh stronghold in Syria, which was retaken by the government troops earlier this month.

The footage came as the Syrian Army continues to drive terrorists out of the areas adjacent to Abu Kamal and Deir ez-Zor.

Successful military actions in the northeastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor led to the almost-complete expulsion of Daesh militants from the area, with the west bank of the Euphrates River remaining the only place where terrorist units are currently still operating.

The city of Deir ez-Zor was under siege by Daesh until the Syrian Army, supported by Russian Aerospace Forces, managed to lift the blockade in September 2017.  On November 3, the Syrian army announced the full liberation of the city. However, fighting with terrorists continue in Deir ez-Zor province.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry's data, more than 90 percent of the Syrian territory has already been liberated from terrorists with the assistance of Moscow, which launched an air campaign in Syria at the request of President Bashar Assad in September 2015, which is due to "be completed soon."
