True Gentlemen! Male Dolphins Charm Females With 'Bouquets' Too

Scientists from the University of Western Australia have observed a male humpback dolphin making a peculiar romantic gesture towards a female – he dived down to remove a large marine sponge fixed to the seafloor and then brought it on his beak to present it to the “lady” in an effort to mate.

According to scientists, this is how humpback dolphins impress their partners, just like humans giving bouquets of flowers. Besides sea sponge "gifts," the ritual includes a visual and acoustic display.
