An English Constable and his faithful canine partner have been declared Twitter's finest British online police-duo.

British Police held an awards ceremony November 24 to recognize the growing importance of Twitter in carrying out their law enforcement duties and connecting more closely with the public.

The overall winner was declared to be Constable Dave Wardell (@Davewardell) an officer from East England and partner of a police dog named Finn, with over 11,000, followers.

The event was first held in 2011 by the non-for profit organization Police Twitter Awards, and in 2017 was sponsored by Twitter UK, Motorola Solutions, Police Oracle and Laws Communications. It was the second of its kind to be held in order to give recognition to British police officers and their animal assistants, including police dogs and horses. Voting took place from June 6th to August 31st 2017.

Other categories awarded included Best Tweeting Special Constable, won by @NottsSpecials, Best Tweeting Horse Account won by @WYPHorses, and Best Tweeting Informative Police Account taken by @ForthValPolice.

Constable Wardell and his canine companion will represent the British Police force at the SMILECON Media Internet and Law Enforcement Conference in Miami in the United States in 2018.
