MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of RT broadcaster and Sputnik news agency, has commented on Google’s plans to create tools to "de-rank" materials from both outlets in Google News search results.
"Good to have Google on record as defying all logic and reason: facts aren’t allowed if they come from RT, ‘because Russia’ – even if we have Google on Congressional record saying they've found no manipulation of their platform or policy violations by RT," Simonyan said in a statement, as quoted by RT press service, published late on Monday.
Moscow has repeatedly said that Russia did not interfere in any foreign states’ domestic affairs, noting such moves were against principles of the Russian foreign policy, and saying that the US allegations of meddling had been unfounded.
Over the recent months, the Russian media in the United States have faced pressure over the allegations of meddling. Particularly, RT had to register as foreign agent at the request of the US Department of Justice. The demand had been characterized by Moscow as violation of the freedom of speech.
The Russian parliamentarians are currently considering a bill on designating as foreign agents media, operating in Russia, which are funded by foreign governments. Moscow says the bill is a mirror response to the West’s restrictions imposed on the Russian media outlets.
