Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has commented on the situation with the Syrian ceasefire as well as on the disagreements between Russia and Turkey.

ANKARA (Sputnik) — The disagreements between Moscow and Ankara regarding the situation in Syria do not hamper efforts aimed at making sure the ceasefire in the country remains in place, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

"The two countries have different approaches toward the situations in Crimea and Ukraine. There are also disagreements on certain issues related to the situation in Syria. But, nevertheless, both Ankara and Moscow are making efforts to ensure the ceasefire in Syria [remains in place]. The disagreements are not an obstacle in this regard," Cavusoglu was quoted as saying by the Anadolu news agency.

According to the Turkish foreign minister, both countries are making every effort to improve bilateral relations.

"At the moment all the efforts are aimed at bringing the relations between Moscow and Ankara at a higher level and at finding ways to strengthen cooperation," Cavusoglu stated.

The statement of the top Turkish official comes prior to a trilateral meeting on the situation in Syria between the three truce guarantors of the ceasefire in Syria — namely Russia, Turkey and Iran.

Commenting on the relations with Ankara, Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently announced that Russia-Turkey ties "could be considered to be almost fully restored."
