Is Saudi Arabia Preparing for War With Hezbollah?
11:28 GMT 15.11.2017 (Updated: 13:40 GMT 15.11.2017) On this program John is joined by Peter Ford, former UK Ambassador to Syria, to discuss just what exactly is going on in Saudi Arabia of late, why the Lebanese Prime Minister is being detained there, and what we can say about Saudi strategy under the young Prince Mohammed?
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has done more to destabilize the Middle East in just a few days than most leaders in that region have done in a year.
The 'Night of the Long Knives' he unleashed with the mass purge of dozens of Saudi princes, officials, and financiers was only exceeded by the forced detention of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri and his forced resignation during a state visit to the Kingdom over the same period.
As to why the Crown Prince has taken such drastic action, you only have to consider the failed attempt to topple the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad in the context of the wider regional struggle being waged not only by Saudi Arabia but also Israel and Washington to neuter Iran.
With the failed attempt to effect regime change in Damascus, all roads point to southern Lebanon and Hezbollah as the next target of this axis of regime change.
Then, too, the revelations carried in a recent BBC report confirming that a deal was struck to evacuate hundreds of Daesh terrorists from Raqqa a few weeks ago has serious implications for the US-led coalition which has been engaged in retaking the city from Daesh over the past few months.
