As the sex scandals surrounding various top show business figures and politicians make headlines in major media worldwide, Monica Lewinsky has shed light on the scandal surrounding her relationship with former US President Bill Clinton that had been exposed 20 years ago.

Monica Lewinsky has confessed to Evening Standard that when her affair with Bill Clinton was exposed to the public, she became a victim of bullying, numerous jokes and verbal harassment.

According to the American activist and TV figure, at that time she didn't know how to protect herself and was completely helpless.

Lewinsky has revealed that the scandal surrounding her affair with Bill Clinton has turned her "from a private person to a globally known, publicly humiliated" one.

She believes that people's behavior toward her and namely their attempts to hurt her as much as possible were related to "a culture that we've been spiraling down towards for a long time: one that commoditizes shame and humiliation. That's at the heart of bullying behavior."

Reflecting on her negative experience, Lewinsky is ready to help other women in similar situations, who are victims of verbal abuse and jokes, or "the culture of bullying" as she puts it.

Since 2014, the activist has been involved in the Diana Award's anti-bullying campaign, targeting teenagers, as well as other initiatives helping women protect themselves.

Lewinski was a 22-year-old White House intern when she met the 49-year-old president. After Clinton denied any relationship with her, she was the one who became the center of the scandal and lost her job, being unable to find anyone who would employ her.
