The day before Xi Jinping also met with his US counterpart, focusing on trade and North Korea issues. Their talks have resulted in a number of trade agreements worth $253.4 billion, with US and Chinese companies signing a number of deals worth $9 billion. Prior to coming to Vietnam, Trump visited several other countries of the region — Japan, South Korea and China.

The Chinese president has arrived in the Vietnamese coastal city of Da Nang to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, a Sputnik correspondent reported. He is expected to deliver a keynote speech at the 2017 APEC CEO summit later in the day.

According to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, this time the meeting between Russian and Chinese leaders will be of special importance, as the assessments of the Xi-Trump negotiations will be very useful for Moscow.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will also hold a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to discuss relevant issues of the international arena and bilateral cooperation. His plans also include a meeting with his Philippine counterpart Rodrigo Duterte, aiming to negotiate the crisis in the Philippine city of Marawi, as well as issues of boosting trade and economic cooperation.

It is still unclear if the much-anticipated bilateral meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place.
