"Restoring normal relations between Paris and Moscow is an achievable goal," French government’s special envoy for relations with Russia Jean-Pierre Chevenement has stated at a meeting with State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
According to the official, who has recalled France's and Russia's common history and interests, the relations between the two countries are "absolutely special."
Chevenment has explained that solving the crisis in Ukraine, which has been repeatedly discussed by Russian and French leaders during bilateral and Normandy Format contacts, alongside Berlin and Kiev, could become a "bridge between Europe and Russia," stressing there was no need to continue the "absolutely stupid conflict."
Volodin, in turn, has also expressed hope for the restoration of effective contacts with the French parliament.
