The video, provided by an anonymous source, shows the man pretending to talk on a cellphone in order to bypass airport security at the American Airlines ticket counter. He then jumped on a luggage carousel and sprinted onto the tarmac before being chased down by airport employees in neon vests and handcuffed by a policeman who arrived at the scene.
The unidentified man can be seen entering an area that only very few employees can access.
"Had there been a plane at that gate, this individual could have entered the plane or had access to the aircraft. This is a very restricted area, only accessible to some with very limited access, and he was able to gain access. Very concerning," the source said.
It's still not known whether the man was a passenger or employee, whether he was carrying a weapon or what his motivations might have been.American Airlines released a statement praising the "quick actions of our colleagues in Miami who helped alleviate this security issue," although they redirected any questions to the Miami police.
Miami-Dade police have stated that the incident is under investigation and no comments have yet been provided by any Miami International Airport representatives.
