The decision to cancel Netflix's hit show amid sexual allegations against its lead actor triggered a massive “storm” online.

Less than 24 hours after Kevin Spacey had publicly come out as gay and responded to sex abuse allegations from actor Anthony Rapp, Netflix announced that their political drama series "House of Cards" is coming to an end. The final Season 6 of the TV series starring Spacey and Robin Wright will air in 2018.

Countless users took to Twitter to express how they feel about the news.

Some fans of the series suggested that the show should continue but without Spacey.

Others called for an immediate shutdown.

A few users likened Spacey to the current US president.

In an earlier interview with BuzzFeed, Anthony Rapp had accused Spacey of sexually traumatizing him more than 30 years ago. A lot of Twitter users noted how disappointed they were due to the scandal.

On Monday, the companies producing "House of Cards" released a statement in response to the allegations against Spacey. "Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night's news concerning Kevin Spacey," the companies' joint statement said.

Since Rapp's accusations surfaced, the academy in charge of hosting the annual International Emmy Awards Show decided to revoke Kevin Spacey's award, which the actor was meant to receive for contributions to the quality of global TV in November.

"The International Academy has announced today that in light of recent events it will not honor Kevin Spacey with the 2017 International Emmy Founders Award," the statement said.
