The Hermitage Capital Management CEO William Browder, charged in Russia with tax evasion, said Thursday that Interpol had dismissed Moscow’s warrant for his arrest.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — “Interpol just confirmed they’ve blocked Russia’s abusive arrest warrant. This is 5th time Russia has been rejected by Interpol,” a UK millionaire of US origin wrote on Twitter.

He added that Interpol had also warned all its member states that Interpol channels could not be used by Russia in his case.

On Sunday, Browder claimed that he was stripped of a US visa following the issue of the international arrest warrant by Russia.

In 2013, Russia sentenced Browder in absentia to nine years in prison for tax evasion and for falsely claiming tax breaks for hiring disabled persons. The court also ruled that Sergei Magnitsky, a tax and legal consultant for Hermitage Capital Management who died in pretrial detention in Moscow in 2010, developed and implemented a tax evasion scheme while working for the businessman.

In August 2017, Russian Prosecutor General's Office said that it had reiterated its call on Interpol to put Browder on the international wanted list. However, the international police agency refused to search for the Hermitage Capital head, citing its previous decision. Soon after that, the Russian prosecutors sent their objections to Interpol.
