Many users of the platform decided to stay silent on Friday in protest after Rose McGowan’s voice was silenced by the micro-blogging platform. The campaign under the hashtag #WomenBoycottTwitter has drawn many activists, celebrities and journalists.

Many men have also joined the protest, which started at midnight Thursday in New York and is set to last all day. Many criticized Twitter's hypocrisy, like Ghostbusters director Paul Feig.
