US-North Korea tensions are at an all-time low and former president Jimmy Carter has stated he "wants to play a constructive role for peace on the Korean Peninsula" by visiting Pyongyang for talks with Kim Jong-un.
"We need to be talking to all of our potential enemies whenever we can, to see what their problems are and work out some deal instead of aggravating them. And I'm afraid if we aggravate Kim Jong-un too much, he might use the nuclear weapons," Mr. Carter said.
Sputnik's Dan Rowell spoke to Sung-Yoon Lee, professor of international relations and Korean studies at Tufts University in the US on whether Carter can repeat his success in the era of Trump, "Rocket Man" and "Fire and Fury."
Dennis Rodman had famously visited North Korea in June 2017, where he said that, "He was just trying to open a door," regarding relations between the two countries.
