Egypt will be pleased to join the Syrian peace talks in Astana, Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Mohamed Elbadri told Sputnik.

"We definitely exert all our efforts in trying to address the Syrian crisis. In the event of an invitation, we will participate, especially since Egyptian efforts have already resulted in gathering several opposition groups that came out with a unified document and a roadmap more than a year ago," Elbadri said.

Meanwhile, in September, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said that Damascus would welcome Egypt along with the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and China joining the talks in Astana. During September's round of Astana talks, Moscow, Ankara and Tehran agreed on all four de-escalation zones in Syria, with Iran, Turkey, and Russia acting as guarantor states of the ceasefire process. The sides also reached an agreement on rules of operation in buffer zones, checkpoints and observation posts, as well as rules of engagement for units of the de-escalation control force.
