US President Donald Trump has stated that “only one thing will work” with regard to the continuing ballistic missile testing and nuclear weapons development by the DPRK.

Suggesting that previous administrations have entered into negotiations with the People's Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK) with little to no result, Trump made his comment, but then refused to define what exactly that "thing" is, according to Reuters.

"Presidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid," Trump tweeted, adding, "…Hasn't worked, agreements violated before the ink was dry, making fools of U.S. negotiators. Sorry, but only one thing will work!"

The US president's tweets appear to imply that military action could be at the top of the list of things he is considering.

In ratcheting up the warlike rhetoric, Trump has previously declared that the US will "totally destroy" the DPRK if required as a means to protect itself and its allies from the threat of a nuclear attack.

In a meeting with top US military leaders and their spouses earlier in the week, Trump stated that what reporters and photographers were observing was a "calm before the storm."

When asked to clarify his seemingly random remark, the US president stated, somewhat ominously, "You'll find out."

Trump, speaking to reporters on Saturday, said he would offer no further clarification.
