WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Joe Arpaio, a former sheriff in the US state of Arizona, said in an interview on Monday that he may run for the US Senate.
"All I'm saying is the door is open and we'll see what happens. I've got support. I know what support I have," Arpaio told The Washington Examiner.

Arpaio said in the interview that many people in Arizona have been encouraging him to challenge Republican Senator Jeff Flake next year, but added that he could even consider running for mayor.
Late on Friday, Trump pardoned Arpaio after the former sheriff was found guilty of disobeying court rulings with respect to detaining Latinos suspected of being illegal immigrants.
Trump's decision to pardon Arpaio has faced some criticism, including from members of the Republican party.
US House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan disagreed with the presidential pardon, according to a statement by his spokesman Doug Andres.
