Erdogan: Turkey, Iran Closer to ‘Joint Action’ Against Kurdish Groups
TEHRAN (Sputnik) — Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) does not intend to conduct any joint military operations with Turkey against members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the IRGC press service said on Tuesday.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that he had discussed with Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Maj. Gen. Mohammad Hossein Bagheri the possibility of a joint operation against members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party.

"We do not conduct operations abroad, but we will confront any person or group that will seek to have influence on Iran's territory… We will oppose any attempt to commit a terrorist attack inside the country," the statement said.

The IRGC stressed that there were no plans for any large-scale military operations abroad.

The chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces visited Turkey last week. This was the first military meeting at such a high level in the history of relations between Turkey and Iran.

More than 900 military servicemen and police, as well as more than 300 civilians, have been killed in attacks of Kurdish militants after the resumption of Turkey's armed conflict with the PKK in July 2015. According to the Turkish Defense Ministry, the security forces neutralized more than 10,000 PKK members during this period.
