Relax, Take It Easy! Colombian Sleepyheads Celebrate World Day of Laziness

Subscribe
In the Colombian city of Itagüi, residents hauled mattresses, hammocks and beds into the streets to lie in them all day – this is how they celebrated the 33rd World Day of Laziness on August 20.

The annual tradition of saying "no" to stress was established in Itagüi in 1984. The organizers wanted to draw attention to the importance of slowing down and enjoying life, of free time and leisure activities in any community. Festivities include a competition for the best-looking pajamas, a pillow-juggling contest and a race for the fastest bed on wheels.
