The number of people who have died in heavy floods in the northeastern Indian state of Bihar has risen to 202 people, local media reported Sunday, adding that the rescue services have been working at full capacity to deal with the disaster's consequences.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A total of 28 rescue force teams, comprising 1,100 people, are engaged in the operations, the India Today broadcaster reported, citing the Indian disaster management department. Additionally, more than 2,600 army and other personnel are involved in the relief operations.

The authorities opened 1,879 community kitchens in the flood-hit areas in order to provide food to the affected residents, according to the broadcaster.

Heavy rains hit the north of India, Nepal and Bangladesh last week. The natural disaster has claimed the lives of 111 people in Nepal and 57 lives in Bangladesh.
