US President Donald Trump has signed a bill authorizing the construction of a memorial to the US servicemen, who participated in the so-called global war on terrorism.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On August 3, the act was unanimously approved by the Senate.

GWOTMF, a US nonprofit organization which will provide organizing, fundraising, and coordinate efforts to build the memorial, said that it was a "historic" signature of President Trump.

"Today’s historic signing is dedicated to our 3 million brothers and sisters who have deployed in the Global War on Terror, especially to the ones we have lost, and those who face great obstacles since their return home. We’re looking forward to building a sacred place of healing and remembrance for our veterans and their families and want to thank our partners and advocated who worked tirelessly on Capitol Hill to pass this bipartisan legislation," GWOTMF said in a statement.

According to GWOTMF, since the deadly September 11, 2011 attacks, some three million US nationals have deployed in support of the war on terrorism across the globe. About 7,000 of them were killed and 52,000 wounded.
