Italian authorities have expelled two Moroccans and one Syrian national due to security concerns, the country's Interior Ministry said in a statement Saturday.

ROME (Sputnik) — All the three individuals have been monitored by Italian law enforcement over religious extremism suspicions. One 38-year old Moroccan citizen was jailed over a criminal offense and has been trying to spread extremist ideology among the inmates.

Another Moroccan, 31, was detained in July over hijacking a minivan. The individual has come to the attention of the authorities earlier in the year as a mentally unstable person who had proclaimed himself a supporter of the Daesh terror group (outlawed in numerous countries).

The Syrian national expelled from Italy has been in custody since 2015 for helping illegal migration. The individual has also been engaged in spreading extremist beliefs.

Italian authorities have expelled 70 foreign nationals on suspicions of religious extremism since the beginning of 2017. According to Internal Ministry data, 202 foreign citizens have been extradited from Italy since 2015.
