MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, a van hit pedestrians in Barcelona’s central Ramblas area. The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia’s police force, said that one person was killed and 32 were injured, including 10 seriously. The police confirmed that the attack was of terrorist nature.
"I am sure that, in case of a corresponding request from the Spanish law enforcement officials, our country will provide all necessary assistance and support in the investigation of this heinous crime," Slutsky told reporters, stressing that the collective international action was necessary to fight against terrorism.
Spanish media reported that at least 56 people were taken to hospitals after the van attack. According to El Pais newspaper citing the Civil Guard, the van was rented by Driss Oukabir in Catalonia’s Santa Perpetua de la Mogada municipality.
