Russian communications watchdog Roskomnadzor on Thursday took away the Russian web domain (.ru) from a US neo-Nazi website, the Daily Stormer, Alexander Zharov, the head of Roskomnadzor, said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The statement comes as media reported on Wednesday that the website had received Russia's domain name from the Ru-center company.

"The Daily Stormer website propagates neo-Nazi ideology, incites racial, national and other types of social discord. In this context, Roskomnadzor requested the Ru-center, which registers domain names, to consider ending the provision of the domain name of this website in Russia's national domain zone. The registrar had ended the provision of this domain name," Zharov said, as quoted by the watchdog's press service.

The Russian official added that the country's legislation established a framework aimed at countering any form of extremism.

The internet registrars moved to get rid of the white supremacy site after it had taken part in organizing the neo-Nazi gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia, that led to the murder of 32-year-old Heather Heyer.

The Daily Stormer disappeared on Wednesday after it was kicked off of Cloudflare, which had provided the website protection against distributed denial of service attacks. The controversial site was also kicked off of GoDaddy on Monday, with Google following suit shortly after.
