Former French President Francois Hollande expressed his condolences on Thursday to the victims of a deadly ramming attack in Barcelona and called for a common response to terrorism.

PARIS (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, a van hit pedestrians in Barcelona’s central Ramblas area. Catalonia’s authorities confirmed that 13 people were killed and 80 were hospitalized. The incident was identified as a terrorist attack. The Catalan president confirmed that two people had already been detained in connection with the attack, according to local media reports.

"All my solidarity to victims of the attack in Barcelona. It reminds us of the other attacks committed in Europe with the same cowardice and demands common response to terrorism," Hollande wrote on his Facebook page.
