Turkish Security Forces Detain 5 Daesh Suspects Plotting Attacks in Istanbul

Turkish security forces detained five suspected members of the Daesh terrorist group (banned in Russia) in the country's northern Samsun province, who were planning to carry out attacks in Istanbul, local media reported on Wednesday, citing Samsun's governorship.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) The statement, cited by the Yenisafak newspaper, said that Turkish security forces received information that seven Daesh suspects had been planning to travel to Istanbul to carry out attacks there. During raids in Samsun, five of them were taken into custody, with two others still being sought by Turkish authorities.

On August 11, Turkish police detained 22 people on suspicion of being Daesh members in the country's eastern Elazig province.

Over the past few years, Turkey was hit by a series of deadly terrorist attacks committed by Daesh, including the attack at the Reina nightclub in Istanbul on January 1, which resulted in the deaths of 39 people, including over 20 foreigners.
