Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates joined popular photo sharing platform Instagram on Friday, choosing a series of photographs from a charity tour to Tanzania for his debut.

The world's richest man goes by a simple username of @thisisbillgates. Apparently, @billgates, the same he uses on Twitter and Facebook, has been taken by someone else.

Gates, who is famous for his philanthropic initiatives as well as his business achievements, devoted his first-ever post on Instagram to his trip to Tanzania.

Gates' wife Melinda was quick to respond to her husband's new account with a throwback picture of the couple.

At last, Bill is on Instagram—and I can finally tag him in throwback photos like this one. Welcome, @thisisbillgates!

The billionaire couple is famous for the charity work they do via the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Earlier this month, the foundation donated $350 million to the Tanzanian government to support the country's health and agricultural sectors over the next five years.

According to Bloomberg's current evaluation of Bill Gates' wealth, the businessman is worth $86.1 billion. Last month, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos briefly surpassed Gates and became the world's richest person for less than a day, promptly falling back behind Gates after Amazon's share price dropped.
