In particular, Kazakh officials were interested in small floating nuclear power plants, the use of natural gas in making synthetic hydrocarbon products, solar cell control systems and cutting-edge techniques of domestic and industrial wastewater treatment. Besides, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas and Kazakh state KazMunaiGas oil and gas company signed a Memorandum of Understanding, according to the deputy minister.

"This agreement will serve a basis for active cooperation between our countries in geological exploration and extraction. We are planning to start complex geological exploration of northern part of the Peri-Caspian Depression in order to assess perspectives of the project and work out a program of exploration works in Fedorovsky and North Karpovsky bloc," he said.

"First of all, it is favorably located in the heart of the Eurasian area, and, secondly, it is one of the largest scientific, industrial and cultural centers of the country, but most importantly, the city has extensive experience in hosting international events. The city has held the summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, the INNOPROM [an international industrial exhibition] and the Russian-Chinese EXPO," Kalamanov explained.
