Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro declared Thursday that the country’s executive branch would answer to the new constituent assembly.

CARACAS (Sputnik) — The president claimed ANC co-existed "harmoniously" with the opposition-controlled National Assembly, which has sharply criticized the 545-seat superbody.

"As the head of state, I subordinate myself to the constituent powers of the National Constituent Assembly," Maduro said in the new parliament.

President Maduro swore in the powerful new legislature last week, allegedly to bring together all sectors of society to rewrite the constitution and restore peace, but the opposition says he wants to sideline the unicameral parliament.
