The Syrian Armed Forces (SAA) are carrying out military operations in the Syrian desert with the goal of uniting their units and leading offensive attacks on terrorists in the provinces of Homs and Hama.

The operation is of strategic importance, because, if successful, it will allow the SAA to take control of the country's main oil fields.

At the moment, the army has surrounded the city of Uqayribat and the local mountains, which are still under terrorist control.

The Syrian infantry, with the support of aviation, has taken control of six heights, which will help ensure the safety of the Homs-al-Taifur road.

Furthermore, the capture of the strategic city of Al Sukhnah, which was the most important fortification of Daesh in the eastern part of Homs province has also significantly displaced the terrorists.

Simultaneously, the Syrian Army is fighting for the closure of the Syrian-Jordanian border, through which the terrorists receive reinforcements and necessary material supplies.

A Syrian military source told Sputnik that the army considers border control in the province of Al-Suwayda to be a top priority at the moment because by shutting the flow of arms and blocking the corridor for passage of the terrorists into Syria from Jordan, the Syrian Army will weaken the positions of the terrorists throughout the country.

The source also noted that on the eve, it was possible to push the militants from the frontier posts of 154 and 143, making it possible to approach the checkpoint of Abu Sharshuh.

The Syrian Army’s operation in this region began in mid-May. Within just three months it managed to take control of dozens of strategic points and local heights.

In total, the army has liberated a territory of 4,000 square kilometers from the terrorists to date.
