Nigerian Citizens Urge President Receiving Treatment in London to Resume Work

Dozens of protesters along with the representatives of the Nigeria's civil society peacefully marched through Abuja to the presidential residence calling on the country's President Muhammadu Buhari, who is receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom, to return to the African nation or to step down, according to local media.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Nigerian protesters took to the streets of the country's capital calling on the country's President Muhammadu Buhari, who is receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom, to return to the African nation or to step down, local media reported Monday.

In May, Buhari left for London and appointed Yemi Osinbajo, the country's vice president, to act on his behalf.

According to Nigeria's The Guardian newspaper, dozens of protesters along with the representatives of the country's civil society peacefully marched through Abuja to the presidential residence.

The newspaper added that the demonstrators were carrying banners saying "Resume or resign, Nigerians say enough is enough" and "Buhari, where are you? Nigerians want full disclosure. What is wrong with our president?"

This is not the first time, when the Nigerian leader leaves the country for a long period in 2017. On January 19, Buhari left for London and spent more than 50 days in the United Kingdom.
