MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Wednesday named Jorge Arreaza as the country's new foreign minister.
"I have decided to appoint Jorge Arreaza as the foreign minister of the Bolivarian Republic. He will take office starting today," Maduro said in a televised speech.
Arreaza will replace Samuel Moncada, who was given this job on June 21 after his predecessor Delcy Rodriguez stood down to run for a seat on the new constituent assembly.
Arreaza has been removed from his post of minister for ecological mining development. The 44-year-old previously served as Venezuela’s vice president and science minister.
