US-Funded GMF Center Launches Online Service to Track Sputnik, RT
05:55 GMT 03.08.2017 (Updated: 11:48 GMT 06.08.2022) The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) launched on Wednesday a dashboard to track alleged "propaganda" Twitter posts by Sputnik and RT news outlets.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The GMF, a nonprofit, received $11.8 million as support and revenue last year, according to its 2016 financial report, including over $2.2 million in US federal grants.
"The Hamilton 68 dashboard, launching today as part of the Alliance for Securing Democracy, provides a near real-time look at Russian propaganda and disinformation efforts online," GMF said, adding this was "Russia’s overt messaging."
The tracking service said it was analyzing messaging on linked 600 Twitter accounts – branded as "bots and trolls" by the foundation.
The stated goal of the dashboard is to keep tabs on Russia’s alleged efforts to shape what Americans think in the wake of the 2016 presidential campaign, which Moscow purportedly tried to tilt in Donald Trump’s favor. Russian authorities have flatly denied the claims, pointing to the lack of evidence.
