Lockheed Martin Wins $158Mln to Upgrade Navy Surveillance Planes for Germany

Pentagon announced that Lockheed Martin won a contract worth more than $158 million to upgrade mission computers, acoustic equipment, armament systems on eight P-3C Orion surveillance aircraft for Germany.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US defense giant Lockheed Martin won a contract worth more than $158 million to upgrade mission computers, acoustic equipment, armament systems on eight P-3C Orion surveillance aircraft for Germany, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

"Lockheed Martin Global [of] Owego, New York is being awarded $158,500,000… [for] upgrades to the mission computers, acoustic equipment, armament/ordnance systems, and displays and controls on eight P-3C aircraft for," the release stated on Tuesday.

The upgrades for Germany will be provided under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program in order to satisfy current and future North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) operational requirements, the Department of Defense explained.

Most of the work on the eight aircraft will be performed in Manching, Germany over the next eight years and is expected to be completed in May 2022, the release added.

The aircraft are expected to be operational on surveillance duties over the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
