MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) prohibited the re-export of Beninese vegetable products of high phytosanitary risk, permitting only direct deliveries, starting from Tuesday, the watchdog's press service said in a statement.

"From August 1, 2017, Rosselkhoznadzor permits only direct deliveries of vegetable products of high phytosanitary risk from the Republic of Benin to Russia, with a phytosanitary certificate, through entry posts located on the Russia's section of the Eurasian Economic Union external borders," the statement said on Monday.

The statement added that the decision to impose trade restrictions was taken after the negotiations between the Rosselkhoznadzor representatives and Roland Zoglobossou, the head of Benin's Directorate for Plant Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. The meeting was held against the backdrop of the resumption of flow of high phytosanitary risk goods from the African country in July that had been delivered to Russia with Belarusian re-export phytosanitary certificates through the EU countries.

According to the press service, Zoglobossou did not manage to precise the volume of production of horticultural crops produced in Benin and the volume of horticultural exports to the countries of the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

The statement added that restrictions could be lifted if Benin provided the information about the assortment, production and export volumes of horticultural products to the European Union as well as to the EAEU.
