WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Donald Trump's administration may take executive action to allow organizations to purchase insurance together, Senator Rand Paul said in an interview.
"What I'm talking to him about is that I think through executive action, I think he can legalize the health associations that I've been talking about," Paul told reporters on Monday as quoted by The Hill.
The senator added that he spoke with the president over the phone and both agreed that they "want to get something done" with respect to associations.
Paul explained that that if the Trump administration allows groups, like the American Association of Retired Persons and the Chamber of Commerce, to join together, they could broker lower medical insurance costs.
On Wednesday, the US Senate voted against an amendment that would completely repeal Obamacare, with a two- year delay during which a replacement would be created, in a 45-55 vote.
