New Delhi (Sputnik) — The latest incident of braid chopping in India was reported from Gurugram city in the north Indian state of Haryana. Sunita Devi approached the Gurugram police on July 29 claiming that the night before, an old man had entered her house but before she could comprehend anything, she fell unconscious.

“When I regained consciousness, I found myself lying on the floor and my braid was chopped off," she claimed.

Police said the investigations so far have led them nowhere as no one other than Sunita Devi has seen the culprit, making it difficult to establish the very credibility of the complaint. Moreover, police have not formally registered a criminal complaint as there has been no physical assault, ransacking or vandalism on the spot. Nevertheless, the victim was medically examined and doctors confirmed she was in deep shock.

“While I was preparing dinner in the kitchen, I saw a thin man in a red and yellow outfit at the main entrance of my house. When I went to enquire, I saw he was carrying a trident. I told him to go away. He went away and disappeared only to reappear,” Sunita Devi was quoted saying in the local media.

Notably, in the last t two weeks, at least 15 incidents of mysterious braid chopping have been reported from various other villages of Haryana and adjoining Rajasthan. All victims claimed they fell unconscious only to wake up with their locks chopped off. Panicked villagers suspect an occult link in the string of incidents but police have branded it as a possible handiwork of anti-social elements.
