General Dynamics Wins $270Mln to Upgrade Abrams Battle Tank - Pentagon

US weapons manufacturer General Dynamics won a contract worth more than $270 million to modernize M1A2 Abrams Main Battle tanks, according to the Pentagon.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US weapons manufacturer General Dynamics won a contract worth more than $270 million to modernize M1A2 Abrams Main Battle tanks, the Defense Department said in a press release.

"General Dynamics Land Systems, Sterling Heights, Michigan, has been awarded a $270,165,431 contract for to install and integrate the SEPv2 legacy unique components resulting in 45 M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams Main Battle tanks and procure, stock and store 60 sets of SEPv2 legacy and SEPv3 unique components, " the release said on Monday.

The SEPv3 retrofit is a step up from SEPv2, according to published reports. The SEPv3 upgrade modifies much of the Abrams tank giving it enhanced armor, improvised explosive device defeat technology and more power for internal computing systems.
