The Iranian leadership is preparing a response to the new US sanctions, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Rouhani met with Iran's Judiciary Chief Sadeq Larijani and parliament speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday to discuss Tehran's response to Washington's new sanctions, local media reported.

"The Americans should know that they will be harmed more by such moves, as such acts will isolate them in the world," Rouhani said as quoted by the Fars news agency.

Rouhani thanked the lawmakers for preparing the plan of reciprocal measures and added that the Iranian response would be further discussed in detail during the sessions of the committee on the implementation of the nuclear deal, the news agency added.

Earlier in the day, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the US bill violated the provisions of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program by scaring individuals away from doing business with Iran.

On Thursday, the US Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill on new sanctions against Iran, North Korea and Russia. The bill is yet to be signed by US President Donald Trump to become a law.
