US Senator John McCain said in a statement on Friday that he voted against the so-called "skinny repeal" of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, because it did not offer any actual replacement plan.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — McCain also said he did not trust assurances from the House of Representatives leadership that they would not vote this skinny repeal into law without going to conference and making changes.

"While the amendment would have repealed some of Obamacare's most burdensome regulations, it offered no replacement to actually reform our health care system and deliver affordable, quality health care to our citizens," McCain stated.

Now the bill should go back to committee so hearings can be held and Democrats and governors can give their opinions in order to legislate in the "correct way," McCain added.

The Senate rejected the final amendment to create a "skinny" version of the healthcare bill earlier on Friday by a 49 to 51 vote, with three Republicans, including John McCain, joining all of the Democrats.
