The newly appointed Russian Ambassador to the United Nations will present his credentials to the UN Secretary-General Friday morning.

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Newly appointed Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia will present his credentials to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres Friday morning, the UN program of work revealed.

"10:00 a.m. [2:00 p.m. GMT] Presentation of credentials: H.E. Mr. Vassily Alekseevich Nebenzia, Permanent Representative, Russian Federation," the program showed on Thursday.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Deputy Foreign Minister Vasily Nebenzia as Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations and the UN Security Council.

Russia's former Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin passed away on February 20 on the eve of his 65th birthday.

Nebenzia is a career diplomat who has served in the Soviet and Russian foreign ministries since 1983 and has been a deputy foreign minister since 2013.
