Germany Threatens to Review Economic Policy Toward Turkey Amid Activists' Arrest
ANKARA (Sputnik) — Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has assured German companies working in Turkey that they will not be impacted by the increasingly escalating tensions between Ankara and Berlin.

“It is very crucial for us that you are not part of the tension and do not suffer from it… I am saying clearly that we see you as the companies of this country," Yildirim said during a meeting with a group of German executives, as quoted by Anadolu news agency.

The relations between the two states have been deteriorating for some time, with the most recent blows hitting earlier this month.

Last week, a Turkish court ruled that a number of human rights activists, including a German national, detained on July 5 on allegations of aiding a terrorist group, should remain in custody. In response, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel promised to review Berlin's policy toward Ankara.

On July 21, media reported that almost 700 German companies were included on a black list in Turkey over their alleged support of terrorism. Ankara dismissed the allegations.
